Open Health is being developed under guidance from a panel of experts in the areas addressed by the program, for example, risk factors for type 2 diabetes and heart disease, overweight and obesity, diet and nutrition, physical activity, stress management and sleep.
Prof Marc Cohen one of Australia’s pioneers of integrative and holistic medicine. He is Professor of Health & Biomedical Sciences at RMIT University where he leads postgraduate Wellness Programs and supervises research into wellness and holistic health. He is also currently Chair of the Australasian Spa and Wellness Association.
A/Prof Felice Jacka is Professor of Nutritional & Epidemiological Psychiatry and Founder of the Food & Mood Centre at Deakin University. She is recognised as a leading expert regarding the association between diet quality and the common mental disorders, depression and anxiety. She is President of both the International Society for Nutritional Psychiatry Research (ISNPR) and the Australian Alliance for the Prevention of Mental Disorders (APMD).
A/Prof Craig Hassed is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of General Practice, Monash University where he has been teaching at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels since 1989. He has been instrumental in introducing a variety of innovations into medical education and practice in Australia and overseas. His teaching, research and clinical interests include mindfulness-based stress management, mind-body medicine, meditation, health promotion, integrative medicine and medical ethics.
Dr Colquhoun is an integrative cardiologist at Wesley Medical Centre and Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane. David does invasive and non-invasive cardiology and has a particular interest in preventative cardiology, nutrition and psychosocial factors for heart disease. His sub-specialities are lipidology, echocardiography and angiography.
Dr Michelle Woolhouse is a the principle GP and founder of Peninsula Holistic. She has a special interest in nutritional, environmental and mind-body medicine and applying this in General Practice. This approach to health is best suited to those wanting a more natural approach to their health issues. This knowledge can be applied to any disease process as it addresses the underlying causes of illness, not just symptoms management.
Dr Ganesha (Gan) Param has worked in the fields of Emergency medicine, rural and remote medicine and lifestyle or integrative medicine. He continues to work in public and private hospitals in Melbourne, Australia and has a special interest in phlebology and cosmetic procedures. He is constantly educating his patients on mindfulness practices as well as the importance of behavioural changes and nutrition to create sustainable health outcomes.
Elaine is a registered Clinical Psychologist with a Masters in both Clinical Psychology and Public Health. Over the past decade, she has worked with individuals and groups in diverse health settings within the public, private and NGO sectors. She is passionate about providing a holistic, client centred approach that focuses on promoting both mental and physical wellbeing.
Dr Walsh is a Psychiatrist working in private practice at The Melbourne Clinic, Richmond and the Epworth Clinic in Camberwell (Melbourne, Australia). Chris also works in the Drug and Alcohol treatment setting and has a strong commitment to promoting use of mindfulness and awareness of family issues in that area.
Adopted by the nation as an honorary Aussie, Dr Joanna McMillan’s ever-growing following is the result of her high profile within the media, health and fitness industries, and through roles such as Vice President of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine, Ambassador for Diabetes Australia, founder of Get Lean, author of several books, and her weekly column in Sunday Life, amongst other things!
As a GP in Brisbane, Dr Deed has specific interests in diabetes and qualifications in Nutritional and Environmental Medicine as well as in the use of medicinal herbs. Gary is currently on the Diabetes Queensland board and is also the past National President of Diabetes Australia, and National Chair of the Diabetes Specific interest Group of the RACGP.
Sally is a university qualified Naturopath practising holistic, natural medicine in Bendigo and Melbourne since 2003, now also undertaking a Bachelor in Medicines Management with Professional Honours in Complementary Medicine at UTas. Sally has worked along side General Practitioners and Osteopaths in medical centres and clinics in Byron Bay and Melbourne. She is also a widely published health writer in the popular press and in a number of textbooks and industry journals, and inspires workplaces with experiential health presentations.
Dr. Daniel Lewis is a Rheumatologist, and Consultant Physician working in private practice in St Kilda. His passion is integrating lifestyle strategies, especially in the area of nutrition, exercise, meditation and stress management into mainstream management of medical problems. Daniel is an Independent Medical Examiner for WorkSafe Victoria and is a tribunal member of the Victorian Government Medical Panels. Daniel is also an Honorary Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at Monash University.
Dr Kausman is a medical doctor who is recognised as the Australian pioneer of the person-centred approach to healthy weight management and author of the award-winning, ‘If Not Dieting, Then What?’ and has had several articles on healthy weight management published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr Rick is also a Director of The Butterfly Foundation and a Fellow of the Australian College of Psychological Medicine.
Philip is a Consultant Neurophysiologist holding degrees in Psychology and Physiology, with a research based Honours degree completed at The Centre For Sleep Research at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in South Australia. He explores the effects of meditation and relaxation practices on the heart, brain and autonomic nervous system and runs seminars, retreats etc around Australia and overseas on various aspects of health and well-being.
